What is (and isn't) AlphaISM Radio about? November 17, 2008 // 2 comments
In the AlphaISM Radio Thread on SRK. A user named "pEe wEe" said the following regarding my last show:
Epic Fail!!!!!!!!!
Why the fuck I want to hear someone fuck some random bitch? wtf? All these new games coming out that you can talk about, but instead some audiio of this? GAY.
Waste.
I assume that Mr. Pee Wee is a new listener, and I have heard similar complaints in the past. So, I should really try to put this issue to rest by telling you what AlphaISM Radio is about.
If you notice, the name of the show is AlphaISM, not "Fighting Game Radio". The main focus of AlphaISM is to entertain its listeners. The second is to inform (as with most talk radios) about topics and events that might interest the listener.
To put it bluntly, AlphaISM Radio is really aimed for men (and a few women) between the ages of 18-43 (I chose 43, because that's the age of our dear Mike Watson, though he continually denies it). I talk about topics that I think would interest my listeners. Many of those topics do revolve around games. However, gaming topics do not lend themselves to long discussions.
For instance, unless there's an upcoming tournament or some other event, what's there to be said about Marvel vs Capcom 2? or Capcom vs SNK 2? The merits and demerits of the aforementioned games have been discussed to death, as well as the tiers, strategies, etc. I doubt the radio's listeners would be interested in hearing how to play with Cable in MvC 2. However, I could be wrong, which is why I need feedback on my shows.
Mr. Pee Wee is correct that there are a slew of new fighters coming out, but that's just it ... coming out. None of the games that we're looking forward to are in the hands of the masses yet. SF4/STHD was presented at the Street Fighter Club, which the radio show covered extensively. I've also had Justin come on the show and talk about his experiences with BlazBlue and TvC from Evolution.
Obviously, as these games come out to the masses, the radio show will become more fighter-centric as we attempt to learn these games, especially in view of them being present at Evolution '09. However, no one talks about games 100% of the time. I like to think that AlphaISM Radio, and the randomness of it, is like being at a get-together. We discuss gaming, but we also delve into other topics that interest us.
Lastly, I love comedy, and that is reflected in the show. My purpose certainly is not to offend any listener. The show featuring D'Nyce's 'intimate' encounter with his girlfriend is meant for comedic purposes. It is not meant to be taken seriously. If there's one thought I really need to impress on new listeners, is that the show is very much light-hearted. I do this show to have a good time, and to meet new people and learn about new things.
At first, I did try to change the direction of the show, but then I realize that the random moments have defined the show over the past 2 years have made perhaps hundreds of listeners laugh til the cry (or otherwise put them in a good mood). I have had a few told me that they even listen to these shows while at work! I'm gratified by the compliments, and I hope that there's more goodness to come....
P.S. Feel free to comment on this blog, and I will respond. Just keep it respectful.

Friday's Show - September, 19, 2008 (UPDATE)
September 18, 2008 // Yo everyone!
I have a special guest for Aism's next show, the great Shin-Rotendo. He's coming on to talk about the biggest news in the U.S. (well, besides the economy tanking), Mad Catz's new Street Fighter IV sticks.
Also, I'll be talking about the news of TvC being exclusive on the Wii, at least for the time being. I also hope to have a surprise guest to join us on the SFIV stick talk, but I can't quite drop the name yet, so you'll just have to tune in. :-)
Show's details can be read here.
We have an additional guest scheduled for Friday's show. Click the above link for details.
See ya on Friday!
